Garden views, deluxe bedding and thick terry robes are just some of the thoughtful amenities that make for a lovely stay at the non-smoking Morgan State House Inn. Each of the 16 rooms at this European-style boutique hotel is uniquely and elegantly furnished — and quiet, thanks to a no-child-under-16 policy. The main house is a restored 19th-century townhouse that hosts six rooms on four floors. While each one is different (some with fireplaces, some with reading areas), they all feature extra-luxurious bedding (feather mattresses, down comforters, starched and ironed cotton sheets), a tiled bath, cable TV, terry robes and towels, views of either the English garden or Washington Park, and complimentary tea, coffee and cookies. Business travelers may prefer one of the 10 studio condominiums in the nearby nine-story building, also individually furnished and with the same amenities, plus a kitchenette and work space. Other amenities include laundry services, a business center and Wi-Fi in the common areas. Parking is available for a fee. Both buildings are in the Washington Park Historic District, an easy walk away from many downtown attractions, including the funky, bohemian Lark Street one block away and the New York State Capitol Building four blocks away. Albany International Airport is eight-and-a-half miles from the hotel. For a bed-and-breakfast feel in a bucolic location, our guests recommend the cozy downtown Morgan State House.
